the 18th african athletics championships are one of the unmissable international sporting events of 2012. held every two years, the meeting brings together athletes from across the continent and crowns an african champion in each of the major athletics disciplines. the 2012 championships take place in porto novo, the capital of benin, from june 26 to july 1. the first african athletics championships were in dakar, senegal, in 1979. kenya hosted the last edition in 2010 in the capital nairobi, and the 19th championships are scheduled to take place in morocco in 2014. the 18th edition coincides with the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the international association of athletics federations (iaaf). on november 25, 2010, the confederation of african athletics (caa) and the government of benin signed an official agreement to hold the 18th championships in porto novo. all eyes are now on the charles de gaulle stadium in the capital, where the events will take place. the local organising committee (loc) is in full swing as the date of the championships nears, preparing to welcome an unprecedented number of african athletes. sixteen commissions are working day and night, to organise what is sure to be a memorable event. organisers are predicting a record number of spectators and the whole country is coming together to take part in these championships. tv media sport is honoured to be a part of the family of african athletics and to have an active role in such an important event.
marketing and media rights: tv media sport is the exclusive agent of the caa for the sale of media rights (tv, radio, mobile, internet) at the championships, which it will distribute on all platforms across africa, as well as to four other continents. tv media sport is also the caa’s partner for the sale of marketing rights on an international level.
event management advice: with tv media sport’s expertise in communication, accommodation, transport, catering and volunteer coordination, it has been appointed as an advisor to the local organising committee. as part of its contribution to the championships, tv media sport organised the first workshop in the history of african athletics, which took place in february in benin’s economic capital, cotonou. during the gathering, there were many ideas exchanged and many solutions to problems found.
accreditations: for the first time in africa, a highly competitive accreditation system has been put in place. web accreditationplus manages the accreditations of the organisers, athletes, media and all other participants, from the application process to the printing of the badges.
tv and media operations: the production operations rely upon the professionalism and experience of tv media sport, which is working in collaboration with the office de radio-television du benin (ortb). twenty-two cameras will be used to cover the event, with hd signal and unilateral broadcast facilities on-site. a renowned producer will oversee the operation and an editorial team specialised in sports will adapt to the requirements of international television networks. all this will boost the event’s international sporting appeal and will be available to all rights holders.
data management: along with its italian partner microplus, tv media sport manages all aspects of sports timing and data processing (e.g.: entry lists, results), as well as the distribution of all information relevant to the championships.
